Shisha no Shinden (Proof of Concept)

This is the proof of concept art for a project I am working on titled Shisha no Shinden (Temple of the Dead). This project showcases the general thematics surrounding this project, ranging from the brooding and eerie environmental atmosphere to the overall sense of unease given off by the slightly offset placement of assets.

As stated, this is merely the Proof of Concept for the project and therefore a small piece to the larger puzzle to help gauge interest in such a massive project beforehand.

All assets modeled by me were created in Maya, with the landscape created utilizing a mixture of ZBrush sculpting and Errant Landscapes. UVs were achieved utilizing Maya for the more basic UVs and RizomUV for the more complex UVs. Quixel Megascans were utilized for the rock wall, some of the moss components, and some of the decals. The environment is handled by Ultra Dynamic Sky and Ultra Dynamic Weather, allowing for greater control over the lighting and weather effects, as well as audio occlusion for the ambient weather sounds.

The forest was achieved by using a combination of Errant Biomes, as well as creating a Procedural Content Generated spline containing 19 different forms of flora that range from small bushes and shrubs all the way up to larger cedar and sakura trees. The placement of the onibi spirit flames was achieved in the same manner with a PCG Spline in order to better scatter as well as randomize orientation, rotation, and scale. Further control over the fog was achieved by utilizing EasyFog, in order to create the most dramatic effect possible.

I've had a lot of fun working on this project and rapidly expanding my skillset in order to meet demands in a timely manner and look forward to working on the larger project for Shisha no Shinden over the coming months which will garner its own Subcategory under my Artstation.
